This course is for product designers, business owners, entrepreneurs, and developers who are passionate about designing and creating sustainable products and want to find an evidence base to support their decisions.

Through a combination of theory and practical training, participants will gain a high-level understanding of key LCA principles and develop a framework for sustainable product design and development.

Each participant is paired up with a consultant who will use the SimaPro software to model their product’s life cycle to identify hot spots, and key opportunities and to help carve up a pathway to certification.


INCLUDES

  • Pre-workshop consultation up to 60 minutes to prepare participants and consultants for the day.

  • Two half days of training and workshopping within Lifecycles Lab, with refreshments and snacks provided.

  • Access to dedicated LCA practitioner, software and data throughout the duration of the Lifecycles Lab.

  • Summary Report (3-5 pages) on initial findings and possible next steps from Lifecycles Lab provided within a month of the workshop.

EXCLUDES

  • Completion of a peer review LCA suitable for public claims

  • Ongoing access to LCA software or databases.

Pre-Lab consultatation

The initial consultation to occur at least two weeks prior to Lifecycles Lab to establish the goal of the study and assess the availability of data

Lifecycles Lab Day 1

THEORY

  • Understanding the structure and the purpose of an LCA

  • Group goal and scope session


    PRACTICAL

  • Map out your whole system (from supply chain to the end of life) with an allocated consultant

  • Work with the consultant to establish a ‘functional unit’, and start modelling on SimaPro

  • Afternoon drinks and snacks with participants to discuss initial findings

Lifecycles Lab Day 2

PRACTICAL

  • Consultant and attendee(s) catchup session

    THEORY

  • Environmental archetypes and different types of LCA

  • How to avoid greenwashing

    PRACTICAL

  • Consultant and attendee(s) break out to get results and insights from the model

  • Group discussion around insights and different pathways to verification/certification
